Client spotlight - Alia Cooper
One of the most inspiring parts of the Happy Body Pilates community is seeing the dedication, progress, and joy that each of you brings to your practice. That’s why, each month, I’ll be shining a light on someone whose journey deserves to be celebrated. It’s a way to acknowledge your efforts, share real stories, and remind us all that we’re in this together—supporting, moving, and growing as a community.
This month’s spotlight is on Alia Cooper, whose consistency, curiosity, and energy never fail to lift the ‘online room’. Read on to discover more about her Pilates journey and how it’s impacted her life!
Q: What inspired you to start Pilates, and what keeps you coming back?
A: It was just chance via an equestrian workshop which included a Pilates session, one go and I was hooked! The variety in your classes keep me interested but overall it's the mental and physical benefits. Pilates was really important in my speedy hip replacement recovery BOTH pre-hab and rehab.
Q: What's your favourite part of the classes or something you look forward to the most?
A: I really like the format so you can see your improvement but the classes are always changing so it's never boring but always familiar.
Q: Have you noticed any specific changes in your body, mindset, or daily life since starting Pilates?
A: Physically I am more flexible and stronger, better able to notice my asymmetry. Mentally, I find Pilates is great for mental wellbeing. On a normal day it is just a great way to start and on a low day it helps to break me out of negative thoughts.
Q: How has Pilates helped you with activities outside of class - like sports, hobbies, or everyday movements?
A: I think it helps with my riding where you need flexibility and sympathetic (not brute) strength. It also helps with symmetry which is vital in horseback riding.
Q: Do you have any advice or encouragement for someone thinking about trying Pilates or trying to be more consistent?
A: Give it a go! Even a small amount of movement is good for you and you might be surprised by what you become able to do! I must also say the mental wellbeing aspect is really important too.
Q: What's something surprising or unexpected that you've gained from being part of the Pilates community?
A: Nicolas' jokes! And the warmth in the classes. Even though we are online it is a very friendly and supportive space.
